I make One Hour Sundress

I made this dress based on the tutorial One Hour Sundress by from an igloo.

This dress is finished aproximately an hour (plus a couple of minutes I think..) not include the measuring time.

This dress is a little different than the original one hour sundress.

I didn't insert elastic band inside the straps, and the bottom part of the dress isn't gathered. This dress is shorter and I think it's more like a top than a dress...

She is happy wear this dress because the dress has strawberries ... :D

Apple Reversible Bag

This bag is made from Reversible Bag Pattern by verypurpleperson. The pattern is available for free download at her site or at burdastyle
The fabric is from local store at jalan Tamim. It is cotton with apples and flowers print.
I have leftover from 15 tote bags,.. well it's not really leftover, I bought the fabric more than I need, I have plenty of this fabric.
My mother is a headmaster of a lttle playgroup (in Indonesia, we call it pos paud). She wants to give the teachers (there are just 2 teachers) a present. and she agree to give them this reversible bag.
I make two reversible bags in two days, I told you I am a slow sewer.... also I've made a mistake.. I attach the strap incorrectly, I can fix it but it takes more time to finish.
I make the fabric flower too, It is from 2 inches wide fabric. I fold it and sew basting sitch by hand. then I pull the thread and roll it.

Ruffle flowers

My mom made this long sleeve T-shirt for little D, I think it's too plain ( oh I forgot to take the before picture ) I decided to make it prettier with this flowers.

This flowers are made from some strips. I gathered the strips to make ruffle strips, and then I sew them by hand to the T-shirt. The ruffle attached to the T-shirt following spiral imaginary pattern.
The leaves are made from felt. Attached to the T-shirt with embroidery floss. This kind of stitch is called basting stitch.
The stem made with stem stitch.
Oh.. T-shirt and flowers are knit fabrics.
This T-shirt is still a little too big for my daughter, so I just put it in the wardrobe. Maybe in a couple of months it will be wearable.
I enter this T-shirt to Trimmed with love contest.

I write this post for entering a giveaway (again?). I wanted to do this a long time a go.. since I started this blog. I thought I have to introduce myself..., but I need a little push to do it.. and This giveaway at Homemaker Honey is a perfect 'encouragement' for me to write this post.
Ok... Let's begin........................Ummm...

I am not good in talking about myself..(I'm not good in talking about anything.. still learning!)
If I said " I am in diet." in the morning, I will end up having 4 times meals plus some fatty snacks that day.
I have two beautiful daughters.
I don't put sugar or/and cream in my coffee or tea. In juice too. I don't like sugar in my drinks, it'll give me headache.
But I adore sweet food: cake, chocolate, candy, ice cream,....
When I grew up (teenager) I listen to Metallica. They were famous.
I love sewing.
I am 38 ... will be 39 on November this year.
I have been married for 11 years. He was not love at first sight and he was not my best friend. I found out one day that he is adorable... (is it the right word?) . We were 'boyfriend-girlfriend' for 5 years before we got married.
I love finding new blog to read.

Twin Pencil Pouch Part 2

It's time to continue..
Now I have fabric with "A" aplique and flower applique.

Let's sew the zipper

1. Make sandwich from appliqueed fabric, zipper and lining fabric right side together. turn them and make topstich.

2. Turn it again, sew a basting stitch all around the edges, leave a small opening.
3. Pull out the right side of the fabric.
4. Close the opening by handstitch

5. Now I have two pouches.

6. Run a basting stitch inside a pouch to connect that two pencil pouch.

I am not too happy.... the finished pouch is uneven, one is wider a little than the other.

But I like the "A" and the flower on felt, i think I will make more...

This is the picture of the whole tunic. The other day I uploaded the collage.
The zipper that difficult to sew is useless, the tunic can be wear without opening the zipper.. *_*.
I sew the bias tape with machine and with hand. First it stitch by machine and I fold it and sew the backside by hand, It's not difficult but it needs more time. Also when sewing the curve like the sleeve, I sew it first by hand (baste stirch) to replace the pin, and then I sew it by machine. If I just pin it and sew by machine, I will have uneven sleeve.

Kids Clothes ...

It's day 3 allready at Kids Clothes Week Challenges, and my project is not finish yet.

Today, i spent almost all day making this top for big sister.

I have cut the fabric yesterday and start sewing in the morning (after preparing breakfast, doing the cleaning and laundry) well.. it's almost noon actually when I start sewing the top.

This top or tunic pattern is from burda fashion, I pick the smallest size (34). .. my daughter is 10 years old and her height is 148 cm. I altered the pattern: adding the shoulder width, the original pattern is too narrow; shortening the tunic length and add ruffle to the tunic bottom. and I am thinking of adding pockets .

I spent the longest time to attach the zipper and it still doesn't look good to me but I manage to hide it.

The rest is not difficult but I still have to be carefull.

I will continue sewing this top tomorrow, tomorrow I will be sewing the sleeve and trimming the thread.

Kids Clothes Week Challenges at Elsie Marley

I am entering this challenge, because I need a motivation to make my kids some pretty clothes to wear.
I already choosing fabrics and patterns, and I just finished the cutting process for a blouse for big sister. But I don't take picture yet, so I can't put some picture of my kids clothes projects.
I am so exciting about this challenge because it is not a competition, I like to think that I am one of those moms who is making something for her kids.
Now, I better go and finish my projects. { OO.. The continuing story of my twin pouch have to wait for a while.. }

Twin Pencil Pouch

I made two pencil pouch, and stitch them together, now I have twin pencil pouch.

I will try to tell you what I've been through to get this twin pencil pouch.

1. I cut the fabric according to the size I want.

2. sew the flower and the pink fabrics right side together, and topstich them

3.Make the flower and the "A" for applique. I draw myself a flower and an "A" on the wrong side of fabric, cut it and sew them with zigzag stitch to a felt. cut the felt around the applique pattern. Sew the applique to the fabric that I have topstitched.

O.. my internet time is up ( little sister wakes up..psst.. ), this project story is to be continued...

Fabric from Red Rooster

I won this 1 yard red rooster fabric from 'Tweet to Win' Burdastyle. The question was: what you going to create with this fabric and I answered that I will make a bag and a matching camera pouch.

But now, after "meeting" the fabric personally, I'm not sure if i'm going to make a bag. Right now I just read the print of the fabric.. This is a fun fabric, the text on fabric is some instruction or tutorial.. oh I love this fabric.

Cowlneck Spring Top

I see a lot of fun at Made by Rae - Spring Top Contest. I just want to join the fun and make myself a cowl neck spring top.

the pattern is from Twinkle Sews by Wenlan Chia, It is called Take Mahattan.

This is my first attempt on Twinkle Sews pattern, I use size 12 (bust=38"), but I think next time I will try to use smaller size, maybe 10.

Let's Make A Bag - finish

I want my bag to have two inside pockets. One with zipper and the other one without zipper.

To make the pockets, I cut three rectangles in different sizes: 1. 21 cm - 5 cm; 2. 21 cm - 14,5 cm; 3. 29 cm - 14 cm. Seam allowances not included, so I add 1 cm for seam allowance. And I need a zipper.

I attach the zipper to the rectangle no 1 and no 2, then I fold the seam allowance and pin it to the position (center of lining bag). I stitch the pocket to the lining bag.

Pin the pocket without zipper to the lining bag and sew it. I add stitch in the 'a little to the right middle', so I have two more pockets here.

I am Ok with these pockets, now I sew around the edge (side edges and bottom edge) of the lining bag right sides together, so I have an inside bag. I do the same with the bag (yellow fabric). I am sorry I don't have picture of this step.

Then I attach the strap to the bag's body.

On both bottom corner I sew a line to make this bag have a square shape.

I finished make two square shape bags, now I sew them together to make a whole one bag.

First, I put the lining with right side out in the bag with wrong side out, so now I have the bag's right sides together. I sew the bag and the lining right side together.I sew all around edges and leave an open space on the center. ( after doing this I realize that it would be better if the opening is on the bag's part that have straight line to sew example on the strap part ).

Clip the seam allowances at the curve points.

I trim the bottom corner. I do this on all four corner from the bag and the lining.

Before I turn the bag inside out, I make the strap for button first. I cut a little rectangle and double fold it then iron it.

I sew the button strap,

and I sew the button strap to the center of bag, on the space that I left open.

Now I am ready to turn the bag.

to make it easier on topstitching the bag, I iron the bag first, specially the part where I will topstitch it.

Topstitch will add shape to the bag and it is to close the open space that I used to turn the bag inside out.

I sew the button,

and make a knotted strap.

Pheww! Finally...

Ok, the bag is finished...

I already have another project, actually this project have finished before I finish this bag. Well.. I am an easy distracted person, .. that is why my project list is rarely checked and I have a pile of unfinished project.

Aniway, here is the cutting process...

1. print the pattern, cut them and attach it a rectangle for body of the bag.

The pattern is made from 4 parts: upper part of the bag (this part must be attach to a

rectangle to make a body pattern of the bag, bottom part, a padding for inside the bag,

rounded edge of the straps.

I use the body pattern and round edge strap pattern.

2. Cut the bag fabric and the lining fabric according to the pattern.

3. For the body, I cut the fabric on fold in bottom and center bag, the picture on the right

shows the fabric cutted an unfolded.

pieces. I draw myself an hour-glass shapes on the strap's tips.

hi there ... I am still sewing and make stuff, I am just lazy to take picture, and I am lazy to write a post without picture. But somehow the lazy days have to come to an end.

I have this fabric for couple of months.

When I purchased it, I had have plan to make a bag with long strap, maybe they call it 'sling bag'. So when I have the time, I start to looking for pattern for the bag that I want.

I come accross a site: frugal and thriving, they have a post about 45 Awesome Free Bag Making Tutorials.

all 45 bags are really awesome, some bags look simple and easy to make, and some bags look complicated, but what I want to make is a bag with long strap ( not a tote bag ). The bag should be easy to make, have clear tutorial and it would be nice if the bag have a (free) pdf pattern.

I decided to make slouch bag , This is a bag from random-charm

I like this bag, not exactly the bag that I had in mind but close enough. This bag have pdf pattern and tutorial, and I have plan to make some changes.

Go directly to the blog post of random-charm ( click the bag picture ). There you will find link to download the pdf pattern and the tutorial.

The tutorial is clear and easy to understand. The pattern is on two sheets of paper, and you will need a rectangle that you draw yourself ( the measurement is on the pattern piece ), you also need to draw pattern for inside pouches if you want to add some.

Next post, I will show the cutting process of this bag. ^_^

Rainy Season Cleaning

It's spring out there... but here we don't have spring, we just have two season dry season and rainy season.

And now it's raining here... Although, it's not spring here, but as I read a lot about spring cleaning, it gives me motivation to do some cleaning too and in rainy season it is recomended to do serious cleaning in the house and the yard to prevent some pledge that often come with rainy season.

I start with cleaning the refrigerator.

tips: You can replace chemical liquid for cleaning with a solution from water and a few drops of vinegar. This can clean everything, It will smell like vinegar for a while but the smell won't stay too long.

I won a $40 dollar gift certificate, I can choose any fabric I want from sew, mama, sew store. the gift certificate can apply to shipping charges, and the shipping to Indonesia cost half of the fabric price but ofcourse its cheaper than I go to US myself (lol..)

It was really hard to choose, all fabrics are beautiful. That is why I received my prize on 20th March (the contest was on 14th February). I did finally checkout on 10th March, so the shipping took 10 days, that's quick considering where I live (Bandung, Indonesia).

I don't sew the fabrics yet, I just want to look at them, maybe I have to frame them?..

I made camera pouch and mobile pouch from Batik Shirt leftover and my blouse leftover (I have a pile of leftover in my scrap basket).

I made these without pattern. I measure the camera and the mobile, adjust the measurement on the scraps. I am happy about the result, they are fit on the camera and mobile. But I can't make another poch exactly like these. I should have learn to make pattern.

I made this shirt for my husband

I made the pattern of this shirt by tracing his favorite shirt, the result is a little bigger than the original shirt.
But he don't mind.

The hard part is to make the pattern on the front matching (the diagonal stripe of the fabric pattern have to be straight). but I think I made it, when I see the picture, I can't tell where is the button. the diagonal stripe looks like not have been cut.

I can't make him model the shirt, well..., maybe later..

This is a fabric card that I make for my friend. My friend asked me if I have a valentine's gift idea, I told her about the fabric card at sewmamasew, she likes the idea and ask me to make one for her.

I made this fabric card from scraps that I already have, I used these scraps for another project (pink bag).

The picture in fabric card: the owl and the speech bubble, are aplique with blanket stitch, owly's wings are made with stem stitches, the branches are made with stem stitches too. And the leaves are chain stitches.

It has three speech bubbles that can be change. I make the bubbles from felt.

Burdastyle have pink and red competiton, I really want to enter this competition, (not that I confident to win). I just want to participate, and I have this pink leftover fabrics in my cabinet.

The rule is to make a garment for woman, man or children from pink or red or pink and red fabrics. This garment should have decorative embelishment from thread (the sponsor is Coats and Clarks) such as embroidery, top stiching, decorative stitching, embroidery, thread painting.

The leftover fabric that I have is not much, I will make a jacket for didi (my 2 years old girl). The pattern for the jacket is Sweet pea denim jacket from burdastyle ( free pattern) that I've downloaded sometimes a go, at old burdastyle.

Craft Stylish have some competitions too, one of them call winter colour contest . The participants have to make something with winter colour: white, blue and silver. This competition will end at 8 February 2010.

The Fabric Floozie 's Recon-a-thon: We have to alter some clothes or anything from fabric into something new. This competition will end on 28 February 2010.

Sew, Mama sew host a true love month, this include a competition to make a fabric love letter. This competition will end on 12 february 2010.

some things I've made

This is an experimental blouse, and turn out okay (I think). It fits my 9 years old daughter.

I made it again, now with variation, I combined knit fabric and cotton. and this blouse has front opening (oops, i'm not sew the button yet)

This is for me, I am trying to make a blouse that I saw once in the internet. I have had a bodice pattern, and I change it to make this blouse. It was easy, but I spent long time in the neck part (sewing bias tape).

This pencil pouch is from plastic bag (ace hardware plastic bag). I made it before I know about fusing plastic bag for making something else. So this pouch is made from just a plastic bag.

I'm still working on my project, a blouse for my daughter, It;s not finished yet, actually it takes more times than the other projects.

In my lazy time, I put the project, and start browsing with my computer. I found this site, who has some cute handwriting fonts for free, and some tutorials to make blogging more fun.

I try to follow the tutorial about changing the font for blog title, date header, and side bar title. And It works.

My Sewing Machine

I want to introduce my sewing machine. It is a vintage sewing machine, the manufacturer called "Fatmah" and it is made in Indonesia.

It is old but still can run and finish my project. I operate this sewing machine by moving the pedal under the sewing machine with my feet. It is fun.. really.. and it runs slower than an electric sewing machine.

It was owned by my late grandparents, they were tailors who make custom clothes for other people.

Pink Bolero

I finished a bolero for my two years old girl.

The pattern is from burdastyle, call: Clara Bella Bolero Jacket. I download the pattern from the old burdastyle site. In the new site, I can't find the pattern anymore, I just find the project.
I made this bolero from a scrap fabric. I don't know the name of the fabric, it has a shiny surface, maybe it is satin? but I'm not sure. I add approximately 2 cm to the pattern because I think the pattern is too little for my girl.
I'm soo happy when its finished, it is going to be my first project here. Well, I think the bolero is not perfect, it needs more accessories, maybe I'll make another bolero with my variation.
